During her college years, Yanelli expanded her artistry by performing on stage and in musicals often as a triple threat: actor, singer, and musician. Preceding graduation in 2014 from The City College of New York with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre and Speech, Yanelli continued to expand her music knowledge and capabilities. This time, she self-acquired a technical skill: music production.
While classical music influences and inspires Yanelli’s musical style, she creates a captivating sound by embracing and merging today’s music – performing covers of Salsa, Bachata, Pop, EDM, R&B, and Hip Hop music. Growing up, several artists that inspired her significantly are Jill Scott, Sade, Aventura, Juan Luis Guerra, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Bob Marley, and Nadia Ali.
Yanelli Lamour’s multifaceted style and talent cannot be restricted to one genre nor capability. In January 2017, Yanelli released her first self-produced and self-written groovy Pop/Neo-Soul/R&B single, “Living My Life”. Shortly after, in February, Yanelli released another titled “Rode for You” – a Trance/Pop/R&B single. Yanelli Lamour’s vocal blend is that of Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, Yuna, and SZA. Not only does Yanelli perform her songs, but also sings with self-played piano accompaniment cover songs of Pop, R&B, and Soul music. Yanelli Lamour’s mission with her diverse capabilities and sounds is clear: to connect with and bring closer diverse ethnic and cultural audiences to one another through her music and artistic expression.
Yanelli Lamour has performed in events or venues such as The 32nd Anniversary 116th Street Festival Kickoff Event: Noche de Estrellas, AM Southampton Nightclub, and Open Door Art’s in Education’s “Urban Block Party”: Anti-Bullying Concert Series.
